What is Unlimit Music?
Unlimit Music is a free web app that helps songwriters explore chord and melody music theory. Tap a root note to hear it, then tap any chord to see the guitar diagram and hear how it's played. Use the chromatic scales wheel to find melodies that fit.
How to Use Unlimit Music for Writing Songs
Follow these steps to go from blank page to a finished song idea — all inside the app.
1. Pick a key and hear it
On the left side of the player, tap a root note (C, D, E, etc.). You'll hear the note ring out. This is your key's home base — the note everything else revolves around.
2. Browse the chords in that key
Once you tap a root, the chord grid fills with every chord that belongs to that key. Tap any chord to hear it and see the guitar diagram. Try a few and notice how some sound happy, some sad, some tense.
3. Build a progression
Most songs use 3–4 chords in a loop. The most common progression is I–V–vi–IV (try C–G–Am–F in the key of C). The numbers come from the chords in order: the 1st, 5th, 6th, and 4th chords in the key. Tap each chord in sequence and listen to how they fit together.
4. Find a melody on the scales wheel
On the right side, the scales wheel shows all 12 notes arranged in a circle. Tap any orb to hear it. Drag the ring to spin through keys. The highlighted orbs are the notes that fit the chord you picked — perfect for humming or soloing over.
Turn on Scale (top-right button) to switch between major, minor, pentatonic, blues, and other scales. Each scale changes which orbs light up, giving you different flavours to play with.
5. Write it down
Keep a notebook or a text file open. Write the chord names as you go. Try changing the order, swapping one chord, or picking a different key. The app is your backing band — loop the progression in your head while you find the melody.
6. Go deeper

Who runs this site?
Unlimit Music was created by Ian "Ron" Davies, who first built it as a cardboard chord/scale teaching tool, then as a guitar chord app on the Apple App Store. It is continued here as a free web app by his son, Greg Davies.
Why free?
Because music theory belongs to everyone. The site is supported by advertising (Google AdSense) so it can stay free for all songwriters.
